I am..
a consultant technical creative director, with over 18 years of experience in the digital industry. I work with strategists, creatives, technologists, clients and account people to help them get the best out of their ideas and needs.
Some people think I’m a strategist, other people think I’m a technologist, some people have even been known to call me creative. I generally try and dodge too much definition, and work as a talented generalist with really clever friends.
I’m a D&AD award winner, have spoken at SXSW, drink way too much coffee, shave infrequently, rarely wear shoes, and often suggest things which are not at all technical or digital.
I was co-founder and technical director of award winning creative agency de-construct, and spent my time helping clients understand what they wantedneeded, and the technology teams understand what the clients neededwanted.
Subsequently, I have worked with a number of organisations and agencies developing and delivering ideas for clients including Adidas, Nokia, Pedigree, HP, Microsoft, Accenture, Cadbury, Nike, Innocent, Diageo and Universal Music, John Lewis, Sainsburys, BBC and others.
I work best early on in a project, developing cross platform strategy, interrogating the feasibility and usefulness of an idea, helping to explore and deepen the concept, starting to plan and prototype concepts, and then work with people to make it happen.
I also spend 20% of my time on non-commercial projects like DisposableMemoryProject.org and charitable organisations like the childsifoundation.org, as well as developing my own ideas like bluesky (bluesky.thinkplaymake.co) and stupid products like ANiceCupOf.com
Yarned Ltd.
At Yarned, I work with agencies and organisations helping them to develop and refine their ideas. I’ve helped Nokia create an open R&D programme, putting a network of sensors on pro-snowboarders; helped Pedigree develop a cross-platform training programme; consulted for Accenture; developed concepts of future storytelling for HP; allowed Nike to face up their product in their retail spaces; enabled Ellie Goulding to connect with her fans; and co-designed tweeting radios for the NHS.
As a company, we also spend at least 20% (often more) of our time, developing non-commissioned projects and products, including Bluesky: an app to capture and share a daily patch of sky; Over The Shoulder: a serendipity content engine; The Last Google: a broken search engine; and Shrugless: a babyproof hand warming device (coming soon), as well as devoting time to our non-profit friends, like the Child’s i Foundation, and Caper’s Coding for Kids.
